Some Clearing Expected Ahead of Massive Storm

It turns out that Ma Nature does NOT have that great a sense of humor. Sure she sent a snow storm to the Global Warming Summit a few years back, which made it much more difficult for the planet saviors to land their private jets. Imagine the problems with Limos and Tire Chains? Those poor billionaires!

I received an email from a person that the ski resorts would soon be suing the oil companies for lack of snow. I simply replied back that therapy must not be working, perhaps medication would be more effective for his condition.

Mt. Rose has received over 200 inches of snow in the last 2 weeks and it is still snowing! That is how nature works. In the span of a few weeks we can catch up to our averages. Remember there is no normal when it comes to weather or even climate.

Having said all of that, we are seeing an end to this latest storm cycle approaching: Here is the forecast for late Thursday.

We believe the snows will stop by Wednesday morning as this ridge creeps east and provides a blocking force. Notice the actual storm down in Mexico. Maybe Ma Nature does have a sense of humor, that is not supposed to happen in a La Nina year!

The coming weekend looks nice, but then the cycle starts up again on the 3rd of January:

This is the time of year when our storms are the strongest and this is a massive storm that will stick around for several days at least, here is a look at the forecast for the 6th of January:

Again, Ma Nature saying, "Your turn SoCal!"

Now we are still a ways out, but right now it looks like another 5-8 feet of snow for the Carson Range:

Conditions should be perfect all over Tahoe, so get out and enjoy it! For the latest on Mt. Rose operations and back country conditions please see my friend Sven over at Unofficial Rose.

Needless to say, if you are not a back country expert, probably stay out as conditions are extreme!

Stay Tuned ...

  1. The most recent report, released in October 2018, called on 91 scientists in 40 countries to compile more than 6,000 current peer-reviewed studies on climate in order to paint a holistic picture of the current state of our changing planet. Yes, as shown in the media-verse, the IPCC report has become the “King of the Hill” of climate science. And yes, it has the scientific credentials to back that up.

So, what does this report… report?

The October 2018 special report showed that our planet sits on track to warm 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by 2040. And if you’ve really been paying attention, maybe you’ll remember that previous reports focused on warming of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit). Sure, it doesn’t sound like much of a difference, but the special report found that this smidgen of variation in warming will cause the following impacts:

Drought. Dry-as-a-bone. Wildfires, growing larger (massive). Coral reefs – gone, bleached. Not enough oxygen in the ocean. Monsoons – aggressive water infiltration. Farmland? Gone. Sea level rise. Glacial reduction. Food shortages. Poverty. Global, planet-wide impacts. That sweet, sweet powder? A whole lot less of it.

    1. Thanks for the comment. Man, you are depressing. You need to get outside some more. So you believe that the billionaires, flying the private jets, renting the limos, with their multiple $20 million dollar homes are the true leaders? That is who you trust? Try and get a grant to disprove man-made climate change, see how far you get.
